Overview
The First Professional Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S.) program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in Unani Medicine, covering fundamental subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, and Basic Principles of Unani Medicine.
1. Duration & Working Days
Total Duration: 18 months (1.5 years)
Total Working Days: 320 days
Induction Program: 15 days (90 hours)
Total Teaching Hours: 1920 hours
Lecture to Non-Lecture Ratio: 1:2
2. Subjects & Teaching Hours
The First Professional B.U.M.S. includes five main subjects along with electives.

3. Examination & Evaluation System
The examination consists of theory, practical, viva, electives, and internal assessment.

4. Electives
Students must complete three elective subjects from the available sets (FA, FB, FC).
Total Duration: 45 hours per elective
Components:
25 hours – Teaching (Videos, PPTs, Study Materials)
10 hours – Guided Learning
5 hours – Expert Interaction & Reflection
5 hours – Assessment (5 Tests of 1 hour each)
Grading System:
Bronze: Below 25%
Silver: 26-50%
Gold: 51-75%
Platinum: 76% & Above
Weightage: Elective marks are added to viva-voce marks.
5. Attendance Criteria
Minimum 75% attendance is required in both theory and practical to appear for exams.
Students with attendance shortages must repeat the classes.
6. Promotion & Supplementary Exams
Students failing in 1 or 2 subjects can continue to the Second Professional B.U.M.S. but must clear backlogs.
Students failing in more than 2 subjects must repeat the First Professional session.
Supplementary exams are conducted every six months.
7. Clinical Training & Practical Exposure
Clinical training starts from the First Professional year.
Students are exposed to case-taking, Unani diagnostic methods, laboratory work, and patient management.
Anatomy & Physiology practicals include dissection, microscopic study, and clinical physiology experiments.
History of Medicine provides knowledge about the evolution of Unani Medicine.
